Our client recently purchased a lovely old building in the historic old Town of Amersham. Having renovated the house carefully, bringing it back to life in a sensitive way, it was time to address the courtyard entrance. A jumble of dirty and badly laid paving stones and crumbling brick edged weed-infested beds was ditched for a clean, elegant design which incorporated a new planting space along the west facing garden wall. Setts delineate the edge of the stylish Yorkstone paving, bringing a subtle contrast to the hard landscape. The new courtyard is a talking piece for guests arriving at the house, and changes with the seasons to provide the owners with a welcoming space to come home to. Since planting, the walls have been softened with evergreen scented climbers adding an extra sensory dimension to arriving in the space.
